Choral Adjudicators

Craig Tompkins has over thirty years of experience as a performer with the renowned Vancouver Chamber Choir, one of the top professional choirs in the world, touring across Canada, the USA, Asia, Europe, and the former Soviet Union singing everything from Gregorian Chant to the latest experimental music. He is past Northwest Regional Governor of the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS), and currently the BC District Membership Director NATS.

He believes that to be the best teacher possible, it's essential to stay on top of new developments in voice science, pedagogy, and repertoire. At the CCM Pedagogy Institute in 2008, he was certified in all three levels of Somatic Voicework™ the LoVetri Method by the founder of the Institute, Jeanette LoVetri, and this became the basis of his teaching.

Other important professional development programs include the NATS National Conferences where in 2014 he was an adjudicator for the semi-final round of the National Music Theatre in Boston, and the International Congress of Voice Teachers (2005, Vancouver; 2009, Paris; 2013, Brisbane; 2017 Stockholm).

In 2015, Craig was honoured to be the first international master teacher at the NATS Intern Program since its inception in 1991 where he was the Contemporary Commercial Music, Musical Theatre, and private studio specialist. Since 2017, he has been privileged to be a faculty member of the LoVetri Institute for Somatic Voicework™ at the Baldwin Wallace Conservatory of Performing Arts in Berea, Ohio.

Craig retired at the end of July 2024 from Capilano University where he has been a proud member of the Theatre Department since 2009. He taught voice and audition preparation to over half of the students in the Musical Theatre program! His students can be found on theatre stages, cruise ships, and on film and TV across North America and around the world.
